It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned books on my little space but I’ve definitely been reading. I am ridiculously excited to be talking about Throne of Glass! I first read this when it was on FictionPress years ago under the name Queen of Glass and I absolutely fell in love with it. When I went back to re-read it, it had been removed because the author wanted to publish it and I soon after forgot about it and worried about other struggles such as school and work. I then rediscovered it about a year ago, all shiny and published and I must say that it was even better than I remembered it. So let’s talk about it, shall we?
This book follows the adventures of Celaena Sardothien, a teenage assassin who was sent into a labor camp after she was betrayed and caught. She is given the opportunity of being the King’s Champion and regaining her freedom if she can win a competition being hosted by the King. During this competition, Celaena not only has to defeat her competition but also has to confront a mysterious force in the castle that is threatening the lives of the competitors. Celaena is one of the most interesting female characters that I have seen in teen fiction in a very long time. She is strong yet vulnerable and is perfect in her craft, but yet heavily flawed. The story is very well written and the plot is perfection. With the right cast, this book would translate into an amazing film.
If you are a fan of strong female characters and teen fantasy fiction and also like Xena, The Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce, or The Game of Thrones series you will definitely be a fan of this book. I am immensely proud of Sarah J. Maas and her growth as an author and I highly recommend this book.
